Promoting Career Development on Prince Edward Island

For Immediate Release
Career Development Association of PEI Inc. response to government’s vision to modernize Employment Assistance Services across PEI January 18, 2017.

Youth unemployment, part-time, contract, temporary, downsizing and closures. These are headlines we see all the time and are significant issues that face us all on PEI and across Canada.
At the center of the headlines are the people who are affected by labour market changes and who have to navigate through a much different landscape in finding a preferred career. People need information, direction, and training to meet the changing needs of our economy.
Career Development practitioners are people who work in the area of career development on PEI. They are dedicated, passionate professionals and assist others in finding and maintaining preferred work on PEI.
Career development includes the skills to manage learning, work, and transitions throughout one’s life. The decisions we make about learning and work need to be grounded in knowledge of self and knowledge of educational/labour market realities and evidence based approaches.
The Career Development Association of PEI Inc. (CDA of PEI) is a registered non-profit organization established in 1999 and incorporated in 2011. It is a network of career providers/influencers/stakeholders committed to providing leadership to strengthen career development programs and initiatives on PEI.
In light of the recent announcement by the Department of Workforce and Advanced Learning (DWAL) to modernize the existing Employment Assistance Services across PEI, the executive committee of CDA of PEI would like to extend our cooperation and collaboration to help make this process as smooth as possible.
We also support the vision of Department of Workforce and Advanced Learning  as they focus their lens on ensuring consistent staffing qualifications for people in the career development profession. Well trained and consistent certified staff in this profession will enhance job seekers’ and career planners’ efforts to obtain meaningful and satisfying employment on PEI.
Respectfully,
Kim Murphy, Co-Chair of the Career Development Association of PEI
Lisa Chaisson,Co Chair of the Career Development Association of PEI
on behalf of the CDA of PEI Executive Committee
