Overview of the latest accomplishments
Another year has gone by and our Executive Members and Committee Members are celebrating a year well done. In review:
In 2022, we provided a cohort of training and 44 courses were completed by members with training through the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF). We have also worked to allow our members to receive Certification to become Career Development Professionals, which can now be obtainedwith New Brunswick as a result of a partnership we have formed.
In 2023, we have begun planning with SkillsPEI to provide further training for 2023. We are also working on other training that we hope will become available in June but more information will follow.
In October 2022 we celebrated two well-deserved post-secondary students working to make their career plans and dreams come true by awarding them with the Phyllis Pitre Bursary for Adult Learners, each in the amount of $750. You can read their incredible and inspiring stories here.
While we did not have our annual conference, our AGM in November offered a chance to hear from two guest speakers, Louise Poirier from Neil Squire Society, who spoke about their Digital Literacy Program that is helping enable Islanders living with a disability, and Lori Johnston from Workplace Learning PEI, who talked about the ADAPT (Accommodating learning Disabilities to Accelerate Performance and Thrive) Program, which provides Island employers and workers with free access to a suite of virtual services to screen for, diagnose, and support learning disabilities in the workplace.
During our AGM, our then-Chair and Training Coordinator, Lisa Chaisson, announced she was stepping down from her position after a long tenure with many accomplishments. Assistant Treasurer/Communications Gloria Welton assumed the role of Acting Chair, and then-Secretary Kim McCourt was voted into the role of Training Coordinator, to lead us toward a successful new year.
With this change came several vacancies on our committees, which we are considering to be volunteer opportunities for our members to find a meaningful, collaborative experience where they can have their voices heard as they work to grow awareness of the importance of the career development field on PEI.
